On October 16th, 2019, a meeting of NGO “Young Roma” and representatives of the Ministry of Education, Directorate for Education of Members of Minority Nations and other national communities was held.
The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the Ministry's representatives to the new project that will be implemented by NGO "Young Roma". For this occasion we presented planned activities within the project and the expected results. As one of the components of the project is involvement of primary school pupils and teachers who will be their mentors, our conversation also included suggestions for potential schools that may be covered by the project.
The representatives of the Ministry emphasized the positive cooperation they had so far with the organization "Young Roma" and expressed their positive opinion regarding the activities that will take place in primary schools with Roma children.
The Ministry has also been informed that the NGO “Young Roma” will announce a public call for selection of mentors, and will subsequently be invited to participate in a Commission for their selection.
On the meeting we also discussed the problem of transportation of elementary school pupils, ie. their inability to attend cultural events organized outside of school or other extracurricular activities because of transportation problems. This is a problem on which the NGO “Young Roma” will continue to draw the attention of the authorities in order to improve the measures aimed to pupils from the RE population.
This activity is part of the project "Improving primary education - first step towards quality secondary education", supported by the Roma Education Fund (REF).
