NGOs Young Roma, Civic Alliance, Center for democratic transition, Walk with us – Phiren amenca and Center for Roma initiatives invited competent institutions to do their best in order to contribute to higher enrollment of Roma and Egiptian children to schools and faculties.
According to data from Strategy for social inclusion of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro 2016-2020, 76% of Roma children enroll to elementary school, which means that even though that elementary school is obligatory, every fourth Roma and Egiptian child doesn’t enroll to school, although that it is a requirement proposed by the law. Additionaly, datas indicate that about 11% of Roma and Egiptian children leave school before their completition.
A decision should be made in order to secure free books for every Roma and Egyptian child who go to elementary school from first to ninth grade. Subventions need to be given for public transport, free tickets, to school and faculty for all children and young Roma and Egyptians who are enrolled to elementary school, high school and faculty. Encouraging children and young people to enroll to various high schools and faculties needs to be made by introducing a quota for Roma and Egyptians in every high school. Scholarships need to be granted for all children and young people who are enrolled to elementary, high schools and faculties. Decision needs to be made to include content on the culture and customs of Roma and Egyptians as a part of the curriculum's free content, and to initiate the drafting of rules and procedure in case of school dropouts or school abandonings- It was stated in group initiative.
