Organised Training "Occupational Health and Safety at Work of Secondary Raw Material Collectors"

Second training organised in the frame of the project Waste no chance - Improving the employability and labor rights of Roma collectors of secondary raw materials! was held at Hotel Princess in Bar on 10-12.11. 2017. The training was delivereded by lecturers from the Association for Protection of Work of Montenegro, Sanja Dujović, B.Sc., Metallurgy, Court Expert in the field of occupational safety and Dušan Bjelica, Occupational Safety and Health Engineer, who had the opportunity to greet the present and inform them about the lecture plan, as well as to invite participants to a discussion with the goal of sharing experiences.

 

The training was also attended by the Executive Director of the NGO Young Roma Samir Jaha, the representative of the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro Vanja Miličić, as well as other members of the project team of NGO Young Roma.


During the introductory session, the participants had the opportunity to get to know and generally inform about the Occupational Safety Law, as well as the specific classification of equipment according to the law. During the training, participants were presented with more details on the types of waste and the possible risks that the collectors can encounter during the work, while the terminology and the collection of secondary raw materials were also presented. The lecturer emphasized the importance of raising awareness about recycling and education, both younger and older generations about secondary raw materials, about ways of their collection and recycling opportunities. During the training, the participants also became acquainted with the standardization of the workplace of collectors of secondary raw materials. Emphasis has been placed on the exchange of experience and knowledge of occupational safety as a special dimension to which considerable attention has to be paid. Lecturers from the Association for Protection of Work of Montenegro presented their suggestions based on the risk assessment in the form of recommendations of the material necessary for the safe conduct of activities.


All training participants were awarded certificates of participation in training, issued by the Association for Protection of Work of Montenegro. Also, during the second training on 10.11.2017. starting at 19h, the Founding Assembly of the Trade Union of Secondary Raw Material Collectors was also held.

The project "Waste no chance! Improving the employability and labor rights of Roma collectors of secondary raw materials" is supported by EU funds through the grant scheme Human Resources Development for 2012-2013 (Implementation of projects for training and employment of people with disabilities and RE population). with the Ministry of Finance - Directorate for Financing and Contracting of EU Assistance Funds. The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare is the institution responsible for monitoring the implementation of this project, but also the entire grant scheme.
