Organized training "Association and Trade Union Activism"

NGO Young Roma in cooperation with the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro, organized a training " Association of Secondary Raw Material Collectors and Trade Union Activism" , which took place at the Hotel Princess in Bar from 3rd to 5th November 2017. The training agenda included training on the protection of the rights of workers, the role of the Union of free trade unions, the plan for the association of secondary raw material collectors in Montenegro, public advocacy and training on the subject of social enterprise.
The lecturers at the seminar were Mr. Srđa Keković, Secretary General of the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro and Mr. Osman Balić, President of the League of Roma in Serbia.
The seminar gathered secondary raw materials collectors from Budva, Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi, who had the opportunity to get informed about the protection of workers' rights, the role of trade unions, legal framework in Montenegro. They also had the opportunity to exchange their own experiences about the challenges that collectors do meet every day. Furthermore, the trainers presented the analysis of the condition of secondary raw material collectors, after which they worked with the participants on the development of SWOT analysis. There was also discussion about the way collectors can gather together, as well as about advocacy, regulations and rules which should be respected in order to represent their association and community in the right way.
During the course of the training, project beneficiaries expressed great satisfaction with the training, lecturers and topics they heard during the course of the training.
The project "Waste no chance! Improving the employability and labor rights of Roma collectors of secondary raw materials" is supported by EU funds through the grant scheme Human Resources Development for 2012-2013 (Implementation of projects for training and employment of people with disabilities and RE population). with the Ministry of Finance - Directorate for Financing and Contracting of EU Assistance Funds. The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare is the institution responsible for monitoring the implementation of this project, but also the entire grant scheme.
