Organised Seminar "The benefits of trade unionisation and models of protection of economic and social rights through trade unions"

In cooperation with the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro and the Coalition Roma Circle, NGO Young Roma successfully implemented seminar "The benefits of trade unionization and models of protection of economic and social rights through trade unions". The seminar was held in the period 24-26.02.2017. at Queen of Montenegro in Bečići. Participation in the seminar took 28 participants who had the opportunity to be educated on labor rights and trade union activism as a mechanism for protection of economic and social rights of employees.

The seminar was conducted by lecturers Laurie Michael Clements from the Centre of solidarity and Srdja Kekovic Secretary General of the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro. Since the participants at the seminar are workers and members of trade unions in public utility companies, most of the attention in the work is dedicated to the importance of trade unionisation and association, the development of trade unionism, trade union rights and freedoms, constitutional and legal framework of labor. On this occasion lecturers explained that unionisation can contribute to improvement of company management and that workers have to maintain a good dialogue with the employer, and negotiate for the improvement of social and economic rights of employees.


Special attention at the seminar was dedicated to the development of a strategic plan that will become the base of further trade union activism of employees in utility companies in Montenegro. Participants were introduced to the context of strategic planning and way of developing a strategic plan. Through group work the objectives which will take place further work of trade unions, were defined, as well as activities that will contribute to achieving these goals. On finalizing the strategic plan project team will work in the coming period, in cooperation with the workers who attended the seminar.
